NEW ORLEANS – It was a strong first three games but the New Orleans Privateers lost the series finale 7-0 to the Southeastern Lions on Sunday afternoon at Maestri Field. The Privateers still earned the Pontchartrain Bowl and are tied for first in the Southland standings after the weekend.

Austin Acree got the start and held the Lions quiet early. However, Southeastern got their first run in the third inning on a Nick Ray sac fly. In the fourth, Southeastern added another run when he singled back up the middle.

The fifth inning saw Southeastern further extend their lead behind a two-run double from Christian Garcia. It was more than enough run support on the day for starter, Brennan Stuprich who went the distance and limited the Privateers to four hits. Stuprich threw 100 pitches and recorded five strikeouts.

Southeastern closed the scoring with a three-run eighth inning. That included a Jacob Burke solo home run and an RBI single by Evan Keller.

Pearce Howard and Beau Bratton each had two hits (all singles) for the Privateers. Collin Kulivan, Tyler LeBlanc and Cristian Poche combined for 3.2 scoreless innings and just two hits surrendered out of the pen.

Southeastern had two stolen bases (Burke and Rhett Rosevear). Garcia was caught trying to steal by Bratton in the fourth.

The Privateers will look to maintain their standing when they travel to Lake Charles to face McNeese. First pitch for the series opener is set for 6 p.m.
