NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Fox Sports sideline reporter and anchor Jen Hale shares three things fantasy players need to know about the Saints fantasy season so far.
1. Top fantasy performers
The top fantasy performer so far for the Saints is Drew Brees with 1,269 passing yards. And he’s predicted to post upwards of 365 points this season. Right now, Brees is the 2nd best fantasy quarterback with 84 fantasy points.
Other top performers:
- Mark Ingram with 346 total yards, is the 16th best running back. Brandin Cooks with 255 yards and
- Brandin Cooks with 255 yards, two touchdowns
- Willie Snead with 249 yards, two touchdowns
2. Players I predict will come on strong over the next 12 games
Rookie Michael Thomas is making encouraging strides as he adjusts to the speed of the pro game. Also, fullback John Kuhn–this wily veteran clearly has fuel left in the tank. The Saints can use the former Green Bay Packer with Mark Ingram in a variety of ways to make their offense more crafty. Chances are not many fantasy players put a premium on Kuhn. So, you can pick him up now at a steal.
How about Colby Fleener? While I doubt New Orleans will see the production out of him they got out of Jimmy Graham or Benjamin Watson, Fleener is finally starting to gel with this locker room.
3. The Black and Gold’s revamped defense
In the Saints last game before the bye, the coaching staff shook things up on defense, putting several now former starters on notice and promoting four back-ups into the starting line-up.
My prediction: we’ll see a lot more of rookie Vonn Bell in that free safety position because of his range, while experienced playmakers like Kenny Vaccaro, Daneel Ellerbe and Jairus Byrd will move closer to the ball. Think more of the the monster slot/nickel position Vaccaro played in college. We’ll have to watch how that affects a defense that so far has been bottom-of-the-league in most categories, including run defense and takeaways.
