Four men were arrested after a shootout in Harvey that injured a two-year-old boy, two toddler girls and two adult women early Monday morning.

All of the victims are expected to survive, including a child who was reportedly shot several times.

WGNO’s Jon Huffman reports is was a bloody scene after three men burst into an apartment on Lapalco Blvd, sprayed the building with bullets, then led police on a chase across the Crescent City Connection bridge and ended near the Superdome.

“The children apparently were sleeping in the living room area,” said Col. John Fortunato. “There was a knock at the door. When one of the adults responded to the door … they answered and said it was the police. Within moments, a number of shots rang out.”

The three men jumped into a car and sped away from the shooting scene. Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Deputies working another call nearby heard screeching tires at the same time they heard a police radio report of shots fired, so the deputies gave chase.

They followed the suspects across the Crescent City Connection bridge, then ditched their car on the Pontchartrain Expressway and ran down an exit ramp near the New Orleans Arena and Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Deputies were able to catch all three suspected gunmen near Clio and S Robertson Streets. They tell WGNO News they found one gun in the abandoned car and two more tossed onto the exit ramp.

After the initial arrests, deputies say they’ve made one more arrest in the case.

They have not released a motive for the shooting.
