BATON ROUGE, La. (WGNO) – It’s official! Gov. John Bel Edwards signed a bill to expand Louisana’s medical marijuana program Thursday.

The new law establishes a viable medical marijuana program in the state and adds seizure disorders and other debilitating conditions to the list of illnesses that qualify for medical marijuana. Prior to this bill, only three conditions were allowed to be prescribed medical marijuana.

Marijuana oil is the only form of medical marijuana that’s legal in Louisiana, but the law has made it almost impossible for patients to receive the medicine. The bill also would allow private companies to make marijuana oil if LSU and Southern University decide not to produce the drug, according to
