New Orleans Police are investigating an alleged rape at Southern University at New Orleans.
Detectives say it happened early Friday morning during a foam party.
WGNO News reporter Darian Trotter has details and reaction from students.
Police at Southern University at New Orleans are investigating a sexual assault case involving one of its students.
University administrators sent out a campus-wide email alert.
Trotter asked, “Were you alarmed? “I was kind of like oh that happened, student Jessica Brown replied.”
“I thought it was a rumor until I got the email,” student Gawin Kiffin said. “It’s sad that this could happen.”
The alleged assault happened early Friday morning.
The female victim claims it happened in campus housing during a foam party.
“I left about 12:30am.” “I helped clean up after the party,” another student said.
Students are still talking about the gathering that was open to students from neighboring universities.
“Like, that was the first major party SUNO had in a long time where we really had a good time and came together as a student body and also brought outside community in.” “So for me it was a huge success but to hear that story that put a damper on it,” the I identified student said.
SUNO Police are working jointly with The New Orleans Police Department sex crimes unit.
Meanwhile, students are banding together to keep each other safe.
“People should be more cautious about who they meet and who they talk to,” Brown said.
“I’m hoping it’s a rumor, I’m hoping its not true but if that is the case I hope it’s dealt with accordingly.”
Anyone with information about the alleged assault, is asked to call Crimestoppers (504) 822-1111.
