Coroner identifies victims shot to death inside crashed SUV on Prentiss Avenue

** The New Orleans Coroner has identified the victims in this incident as 18-year-old Kennell Lewis and 19-year-old Emmanuel Benjamin. Both victims died from gunshot wounds.

NEW ORLEANS- The NOPD is investigating a double homicide that occurred in the 4800 block of Prentiss Avenue.

Neighbors say around midnight, they heard a burst of shots, but couldn’t tell if it was gunfire, fireworks, or something else.

After sunrise, the discovered a crashed car on Prentiss along the edge of the Joseph M. Bartholomew, Sr Municipal Golf Course.

At about 7:30 A.M. NOPD Third District officers responded to a call of a vehicle crash with injury at the location.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a crashed maroon SUV with two unresponsive male victims inside. The victims were declared dead at the scene.

Based on evidence discovered at the scene, the NOPD Homicide Unit detectives assumed command of the investigation.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible in this incident, as well as a motive. No further information is available at this time.
