The search is on for whoever killed and carjacked a soldier home for the holiday’s.

Staff Sargent Joseph Anderson grew up nearby where he was shot and killed dropping off his three kids outside his in-laws Marrero home Wednesday night.

Family says Anderson was stationed in Maryland.

JPSO’s Col. John Fortunato says detectives found Anderson’s stolen Toyota 4- Runner was two miles from the scene of the shooting, “It appears as though the vehicle was ransacked but this just could have been a random act. We have no information as far as suspects.”

He says they also have few clues to why someone would shoot and kill a soldier who served three tours of duty in the Middle East, “It doesn’t appear that anything was taken from him. He still had some of his personal effects on him at the time.”

Detectives hope locating the carjacked vehicle leads to a break in the case.

Fortunato says they have no reason to suspect Anderson personally knew his killer.
