Three Grand Isle police officers arrested amid sprawling corruption investigation

GRAND ISLE, La. (WGNO) – Three Grand Isle police officers were arrested along with two other people amid a sprawling investigation into corruption within the police department.

According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand, the five arrests are part of an ongoing investigation by JPSO that started in July 2014 as part of a probe into a drug operation.

Normand said in March that deputies were investigating allegations of evidence being tampered with and $4,000 in cash missing from a cash box, among other claims. Investigators seized police reports, 32 firearms and other evidence.

Normand said he will not release details about the five arrests because of the ongoing investigation.

The following people have been arrested:

-Grand Isle Police Capt. Tyson Gravette, 32

One count each of extortion and malfeasance In Office

-Grand Isle Police Lt. Elgene Gary, 72

One count of malfeasance in office

-Grand Isle Police Officer Cameron Westbrook, 25

One count each of extortion and malfeasance in office

-Karrie Mulac, 49

One count of extortion

-Tasha Eschete, 40
