NEW ORLEANS(WGNO) — New Orleans is not a city you can surf in, however you can still get a surfer’s body at City Surf Fitness on 5924 Magazine Street. The concept uses a stability surfboard to tone your muscles. Also popular workouts such as yoga and barre are thrown into the group classes.

“I grew up in Fort Lauderdale. I’ve been immersed in surf culture my whole life so being able to bring something that I love to the city I love —  just seemed like the perfect fit,” said owner Becky Hardin. Her magazine street location opened November 19, 2015.

City Surf was started in Dallas by Mitchelle Brown and his business partner Lauren McHenry, who wanted to create something where you can have fun while working out, still sweat, and burn calories, but not a traditional workout setting. You may remember them from the hit show on ABC, “Shark Tank.”

The studio offers six classes, ranging from yoga, to pilates, to boot camp, to weight training. Hardin recommends going to 3 classes before giving up because it takes a while to get used to the board. City Surf will be partnering with Yelp on December 16 to offer a free class.
