Incident at Baton Rouge Walmart leaves 1 man injured

BATON ROUGE – An altercation inside a Walmart left one person injured, one person in cuffs, and another person on the run.

The altercation began near the Burbank Drive store’s customer service area.

Officials say two men began arguing around noon. One of the men produced a gun, and the other grabbed an unknown weapon.

Deputies say the individual that was detained was in possession of a handgun, and that he legally obtained the weapon, he is not prohibited from owning a firearm, and he possesses a current Concealed Carry Handgun permit.

Investigators have also determined that this person was acting in self-defense.

The second person involved in the incident is still at large, and the Sheriff’s Office is requesting that anyone with information on his whereabouts or information on the incident to please call Crime Stoppers at 344-7867 or the Sheriff’s Office at 389-5000.

Investigators have concluded that the injuries sustained by the third party, were not the result of a gunshot.

Investigators have determined that his injuries were sustained while he was attempting to flee the Wal-Mart.

Investigators do not believe a shooting incident occurred at the Wal-Mart, and are still reviewing video of the incident.
