New Orleans (WGNO)–St. Charles Parish officials confirmed that around 8:20 a.m. Saturday they received a call from workers on the train tracks reporting a fire.

Workers said for about 45 minutes to an hour they tried to put the fire out with foam, but were unsuccessful.

The St. Charles Parish Emergency Operations Center says multiple agencies are currently responding to the fire in the Bonnet Carre’ spillway. 

They say the fire has been contained and responders are working to extinguish it.

Residents are asked to monitor local media for more information as it becomes available.

There are no off site impacts, and the public is NOT advised to take any protective measures at this time.

Amtrak released a statement saying that due to the bridge fire on the CN infrastructure north of New Orleans, the Amtrak City of New Orleans Trains 58 and 59 (Chicago – New Orleans) will provide alternate transportation for passengers between Jackson, Mississippi and New Orleans Saturday and that they are working on arrangements for future travel.

Officials added that all affected passengers will be contacted directly.
