RACELAND, La. (WGNO) – A Louisiana native was shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend in a murder-suicide last week in Texas. Takita Mathieu’s family told WGNO this could have been avoided.
They say she went to the Houston Police department last Wednesday, begging for protection from Marcus Crocker after he allegedly called her more than a hundred times.
Just hours later, Crocker showed up to the rental office where she worked — shot her — and then shot himself.
Houston Police confirmed that Mathieu had contacted them twice about Crocker’s aggressive behavior in recent months. Mathieu and Crocker had dated for several year but broke up about 4 months ago.
Their two-year-old daughter, Ariel, is now with Takita’s family.
Friday, they laid Takita to rest. Her funeral took place at Morning Start Baptist Church in Raceland. They want people to remember Takita as a fun, adventurous, lovable woman. She was in New Orleans a couple weeks ago, visiting them for Mardi Gras.
If you want to help out their family, makes checks payable to ‘Takita Mathieu Memorial Fund.’
