NEW ORLEANS – A vehicle crashed through the side of a building on St. Bernard Avenue this morning, trapping the driver and one passenger inside.
The crash occurred around 6:45 a.m. near the intersection of North Prieur and St. Bernard.
Firefighters on the scene had to work their way into the building to free the driver and passenger since the vehicle was completely inside the building.
The driver was removed from the vehicle on a stretcher and transported to a hospital for treatment.
The passenger died on the scene, according to the NOFD.
The building sustained so much damage in the crash that firefighters fear it may collapse.
Code enforcement officials are on the scene to determine if the building can withstand the removal of the vehicle, according to the NOFD.
