NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)- WGNO’s Anne Cutler and Kenny Lopez competed in the 4th annual Peoples Health “Supermarket Sweep” at the Breaux Mart on Jefferson Highway this afternoon.

This local version of “Supermarket Sweep” is just like the popular game show from the 1980’s, where people run up and down the grocery store aisles collecting food.

Anne and Kenny competed against other local media teams.  Last year, they won first place.   Nearly 12-thousand dollars worth of food was collected to give to Second Harvest Food Bank.  Second Harvest Food Bank will be feeding needy senior citizens this Thanksgiving.  Anne and Kenny collected almost 2-thousand dollars worth of goods, placing third. came in second place, and WDSU-TV came in first place.

This is the 4th year for the Peoples Health Supermarket Sweep.  Heres what Suzanne Whitaker of Peoples Health had to say about how this event benefits the community.

“With one in twelve seniors at risk for hunger, Peoples Health’s support fills a void during this busy time of year when demand is high for the Second Harvest,” stated Terri Kaupp, Communications and PR Specialist for the Second Harvest Food Bank of New Orleans and Acadiana.  “Peoples Health brings attention to the need for donations in a fun and exciting way through the Supermarket Sweep.”

Peoples Health is proud to support local seniors and bring awareness to senior hunger issues in the community during this holiday season.  Peoples Health is a Medicare Advantage administrator and is now accepting enrollment in their plans during Medicare’s Annual Enrolment Period, which ends December 7th and is the only time of year Medicare eligible recipients can enroll in and adjust their Medicare coverage for January 1, 2016.
