** Update **

As of 3:37 P.M. I-10 East is being re-opened at Louisa.

Drivers should expect delays until traffic build-up in the area has lessened.

The NOPD is investigating a fatal accident involving a motorcyclist and an 18-wheeler.

Police were notified of the accident at 1:19 P.M. on I-10 eastbound at the High Rise.

Just prior to the call, the driver of the motorcycle was seen driving erratically on I-610 eastbound.

After entering I-10 eastbound, the driver attempted to cut between two 18-wheel tractor trailers that were also traveling eastbound on the High Rise.

When the driver of the motorcycle attempted to cut between the trucks, he hit one truck, lost control, and was struck by the second truck.

The driver of the motorcycle died at the scene.

The driver of the truck that struck the motorcyclist stopped at the scene and spoke to investigators.

The driver of the other truck was not at the scene, but may not have been aware of the accident.

There are currently no charges pending against either driver.

Interstate 10 was closed during the investigation, but has since reopened.
