METAIRIE, LA – Sheriff Joseph Lopinto reports that the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide that occurred in Metairie.

The case initially began as missing persons investigation yesterday evening, but was changed to a homicide with the discovery of the victim’s body this afternoon.

Around 6:40 P.M. on Sunday, the victim’s wife called JPSO to report the victim missing. She had been unable to contact him for several hours after he was supposed to meet someone in the 5800 block of Airline Drive to sell his vehicle. She became concerned for his safety after he did not answer phone calls and she could not locate him with friends or family.

Investigators attempted to locate the victim and vehicle last night, but were not able to do so until this morning.

The victim’s vehicle was located in an apartment complex in the 4400 block of Alvin Dark Avenue in Baton Rouge.

At around 11:30 this morning, a male approached the vehicle. As detectives attempted to contact him, he ran away into a wooded area. During that confrontation, a detective fired several shots. The suspect was uninjured and continued to flee before taken into custody shortly after.

As the investigation progressed, a second suspect was detained at an apartment in the 4400 block of Alvin Dark Avenue.

At around 12:50 PM today, JPSO headquarters received a call that a resident had found what appeared to be deceased person in a field near the intersection of Lark Street and Linden Street in Metairie. Responding deputies tentatively identified the remains as those of the missing person.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.
