NEW ORLEANS -- The intersection of Canal Street and City Park Avenue is reopened Monday afternoon (December 4) after four months of being closed.

Some local businesses say the closure has hurt sales, but they've been patient and realize the work needed to be done.

The intersection closed in July for the Cemeteries Transit Center Project. Upgraded traffic signals and pedestrian crossings are now in place.

Come January, a combined streetcar and bus transfer terminal on Canal Boulevard north of City Park Avenue, will make it safer and easier for transit riders to make connections at the streetcar and JeT bus stops.

It will also extend the streetcar line from the end of Canal Street to the foot of Canal Boulevard.

Detours for the streetcar and bus line will remain until safety and operational testing is completed in January.
