NEW ORLEANS -- WGNO's Carla Pesono is a huge foodie, and an even bigger fan of "off-the-beaten-path" food destinations.
That's the premise behind her new segment, Carla's Menu, which explores some of the best kept dining secrets in and around New Orleans.
In this Carla's Menu, Carla Pesono takes you to Vucinovich's Restaurant in New Orleans East.
This spot serves up all your New Orleans favorites, but with an Italian-Croatian twist.
Rusty Vucinovich, the restaurant's owner, says his father and two uncles started the business 40 years ago in 1978.
Rusty took over in 1986 after one of his uncles passed.
Whether it's the special of the day (like the spaghetti with meat sauce and fried chicken) or the fried shrimp, fried oysters or fresh sausage, everything is made in-house. And it shows in the taste.
It's a spot for regulars and newbies alike, but you'll have to get out to the East during lunch hours.
It's located at 4510 Michoud Blvd., New Orleans and open only for lunch from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
