NEW ORLEANS – An almost eerie, calm-before-the-storm feeling hovered over New Orleans on Monday as the city welcomes the world, ready or not.

You can see a hurried frenzy in the French Quarter as workers put last minute finishing touches painting, polishing windows, fixing signs and unloading Mardi Gras beads by the pallet.

Delivery drivers are on overdrive, and four new 1920’s style streetlights now illuminated at the top of Bourbon Street is the icing on the cake.
