The number of people with food allergies is on the rise.  In Audubon Park, folks laced up their shoes to spread awareness on Saturday.

The Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) held it’s annual walk.  The FARE walk raises money for those fighting with food allergies from such foods as peanuts, sesame seeds, and shellfish.  One in 13 children in the United States suffer from food allergies.

FARE Walk Organizer for New Orleans, Sherry Langston said, “Me and my children, as well as my nephew all have food allergies.  We carry Eppie pens and we’ve been through allergic reactions.  We know the potential outcome.  We want to raise awareness and eduction to find out more about the cause.”

There are FARE allergy walks in more than 60 communites, nation-wide, throughout the year.
