Members of the Berger family, along with representatives from the City of New Orleans and the Jewish community in New Orleans presided over a sign dedication ceremony at David Berger-Avenger Field Monday.

A former Tulane University student-athlete who trained at Avenger Field, David Berger was a victim of the terrorist attacks at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games while representing Israel in weightlifting.

The New Orleans City Council officially re-named Avenger Field as “David Berger-Avenger Field” and a new sign was recently installed at the site to reflect the field’s proper designation.

In these video clips, David’s brother Fred recalls finding out about David’s death and going home to his funeral. Fred admits this is the first time he has ever spoken publicly about David.
