“If a church ground is not sacred what is?” said NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson in response to homicide spike


NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department began investigating multiple shootings overnight. 9 people were involved in these incidents, 2 people were killed.

The New Orleans Police Department held a press conference regarding the increase in shootings this past week.

NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said in the past 48 hours they have seen a spike in shootings and homicides in the city.

Furguson added, that there is a different criminal element with many of these incidents happening in broad daylight.

He reported on one of the recent shootings that happened at a church ground.

“If a church ground is not sacred what is?” said Ferguson.

Furguson said they are investigating each and every one of these incidents appropriately.

As of Friday, October 8, NOPD has identified some persons of interest and some suspects related to the recent crimes.
