UPDATE — On Tuesday, September 28, the New Orleans Coroner identified the victim in this shooting to be 33-year-old Jamal Sears. The preliminary cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound.

NOPD has not yet identified a suspect or motive in this incident.

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — On Sunday, the New Orleans Police Department began investigating a deadly shooting that happened in 6800 block of East Coronet Court.

NOPD says around 12:55 p.m., NOPD Seventh District officers responded to a call of aggravated battery by shooting at the location.  Upon arrival, officers found a 33-year-old man with a gunshot wound(s) inside of a vehicle.

According to police, EMS pronounced the man dead on the scene.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. 

No additional details are available at this time.  The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
