JPSO: Police shot and killed agitated woman after she struck a deputy with her car

Update: September 1, 6:10 p.m. Sheriff Joseph Lopinto has reported that just after 3:30 p.m., JPSO deputies responded to a disturbance in the 6400 block of Park Manor Drive.

Upon arrival, police reportedly encountered a woman who was agitated, causing a disturbance with parish workers in the area.

JPSO says that although deputies made several attempts to calm the woman down, she eventually fled in her vehicle while dragging a deputy alongside her.

Just before 4 p.m., the woman stopped to halted traffic near the intersection of Veterans Boulevard and Lisa Drive. It was then that police approached the woman’s car, leading her to strike a deputy with her vehicle.

Another JPSO deputy who was standing alongside the vehicle then fired multiple shots at the woman. The SUV rolled a short distance away and then stopped.

The woman was declared dead at the scene.

The investigation continues and more details will be released as they become available.


METAIRIE, La. (WGNO) — An investigation is underway in Metairie after a shooting involving a deputy occurred.

On Wednesday, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office began working a shooting near the intersection of Lisa Drive and Veterans Boulevard.

Neither a motive nor a suspect have been determined at this time.
