JEFFERSON PARISH (WGNO) – The man accused of murdering and dismembering mother and dancer Jaren Lockhart pleaded guilty Monday in Jefferson Parish to charges unrelated to the Lockhart case.
Terry Speaks pleaded guilty to two parole violations and failing to register as a sex offender in Louisiana. Monday’s guilty pleas subjected Speaks to Louisiana’s habitual offender law. Judge Stephen Grefer imposed a sentence of 8 years in prison for Speaks.
If he had not pleaded guilty to these charges he would have faced trial on a charge that he failed to register as a convicted sex offender when he moved to Jefferson Parish in 2012.
Speaks is still scheduled to stand trial in the Lockhart murder in mid-June.
His then girlfriend Margaret Sanchez is also accused of murdering and dismembering Lockhart.
