ELBA, Ala (WDHN)— The hunt for a 38-year-old escaped inmate from Coffee County is over after sixteen days, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections.
ADOC Officials say Daniel Lee Smallwood was recaptured by the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office in Tallassee, Alabama on Saturday, September 23.
Smallwood has been on the run since Friday, September 8, after leaving his assigned job at the Elba Work Release Center at 1:00 a.m.
Coffee County Sheriff Scott Byrd says his department lost track of Smallwood on Saturday, September 16, after he made it to a Coffee County River and disappeared.
Smallwood was serving a 54-month sentence on the charge of Burglary in the third degree out of Elmore County.
The ADOC website states the Elba Work Release Center is an all-male minimum security facility.
