NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A man has been charged in the shooting on New Orleans’ Bourbon Street over the weekend that left five people wounded.
On Monday, the New Orleans Police Department announced that 18-year-old Dashawn Myre was charged with the following:
- Aggravated second-degree battery (5 counts)
- Illegal possession of a concealed firearm (1 count)
Myre is accused of opening fire on a crowd of people in the 200 block of Bourbon Street around 1:45 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 27). The location is only blocks away from where detectives say a Baton Rouge teenager gunned down another teen from Baton Rouge on Canal Street.
We’re told that an argument broke out between Myre and an unidentified person when he reportedly pulled out a gun and began firing shots. The NOPD says the gunman struck at least five people, which included two females and three males. The victims’ ages were not disclosed.
All five victims were transported to an area hospital by EMS for non-life-threatening wounds.
About three hours later, the NOPD stated that two people, an unnamed 17-year-old and an 18-year-old, later revealed to be Myre, were taken into custody for questioning related to the incident.
In a press conference on Monday, NOPD Supt. Shaun Ferguson said that Myre’s weapon matched scene evidence and was determined to have been the gun used in the shooting.
Ferguson added that the juvenile was determined not to have been involved with the shooting, but like Myre, does face a gun charge for illegal possession of a concealed weapon.
