NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – A woman’s 38th birthday turned batty Monday night when she was arrested for reportedly swinging a baseball bat at patrons inside Mid-City Yacht Club, then returning to the bar later with a gun.

According to a news release from NOPD, Jessica McPherson was arrested in the 400 block of South St. Patrick Street on two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and one count of simple battery.

Officers responded just after 10 p.m. to a disturbance at Mid-City Yacht Club, where witnesses said a woman, later identified as McPherson, walked into the bar on her birthday and began swinging a baseball bat at patrons and threatening to fight. The woman left the bar and started walking along Baudin Street.

About 40 minutes later, officers were called back to Mid-City Yacht Club, where the same woman had returned and was armed with a gun.

Patrons at the bar disarmed the woman and pinned her to the ground.

Police said McPherson’s speech was slurred and she had a strong smell of alcohol on her breath.
