SUNSET, La. (WGNO) –  A police officer was shot and killed Wednesday while responding to a domestic disturbance call in St. Landry Parish, State Patrol Master Trooper Brooks David told CNN.

He has been identified as 51-year-old Henry Nelson of the Sunset Police Department.

Two women were also stabbed and another woman died.

A crime reporter for The Advocate, Maya Lau, says a Sunset police officer responded to a home in Sunset around 3 p.m. for a domestic disturbance. There three people were stabbed and the officer was shot.

The alleged shooter then crashed his car into a Mini Mart gas station blocks away from the original crime scene.  There had a brief standoff with police before he was arrested.

Three people inside the store managed to escape. And St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said no one was held hostage, despite previous reports.

Sunset is a town of about 3,000 people located some 15 miles north of Lafayette, Louisiana.
