Tomorrow, on the uptown campus of Tulane University, history will be made.
For the first time in nearly 40 years, Tulane will play their football games at an on campus stadium. Yulman Stadium, named after the major donors that contributed about 15 million to the cause, opens its doors to the public tomorrow afternoon.
How appropriate that Georgia Tech is the Green Wave's opponent. Tulane and Tech were both inaugural members of the Southeastern Conference before both left in the mid 60s.
The 30,000 seat open air stadium is not only great for Tulane University and their football program, but for the city of New Orleans as well.
Georgia Tech plays in Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta, roughly a mile and a half from the Georgia Dome. Tulane basically will do the same thing, playing in their new stadium located about two miles down the street from the Superdome. Two stadiums just a few miles apart, like in Atlanta, makes New Orleans appear more economically viable. And we are!
