NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Talk about carefully putting together a masterpiece. A Sand Mandela was blown into place by monks from South India at the New Orleans Healing Center.

Monks use a funnel called a chak-pur to blow sand of which ever color they choose to create the elaborate masterpiece.

During the special occasion the Healing Center is holding a the 5th annual New Orleans Sacred Music festival.

Sunday the monks will put the sand from the Mandela into a little bag they’ll hand out. The monks along with others will then go to the Mississipi River to drop the sand into the river to bless New Orleans.
