NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) –Tuesday marks the beginning of Twelfth Night, the start of the Mardi Gras season. January 6th is important for another reason though, that day marks Joan of Arc’s birthday. The Krewe of Joan of Arc is prepping to be this season’s first Mardi Gras parade.

Unlike other krewes, the Joan of Arc krewe takes their namesake very seriously. The group studies their martyr and are truly inspired by her actions — they also refer to her by first name. “I think Joan was committed to doing what was right. I think we all need to be connected to doing what’s right.”

The parade is Tuesday, January 6 at 6 p.m. and all the throws are homemade. If you’re interested in learning more about The Krewe of Joan of Arc, their website has a growing online library.
