NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — It was a big weekend for the City of New Orleans with 4th of July activities, Essence Fest, and 5-time heavy weight champion, Evander Holyfield’s charity event.

“The Real Deal” was in town showing his support for The Boys and Girls Club, at his fundraiser in downtown New Orleans.

The infamous boxer attributes all of his success to his involvement in the Boys and Girls Club as a child in Atlanta, where he learned how to box. He highly encourages everyone to get involved and donate to the cause to help the future of our country succeed.

Ed Lewis, founder of Essence Magazine and Essence Festival showed face at the fundraiser as well and mentioned that the benefit of getting involved in Boys and Girls club is truly in everyone’s best interest, because if we guide the children of America, the country as a whole will be in better shape down the line.

A pair of Holyfield’s gloves were auctioned off at the event and all proceeds went to charity.
