Zurk takes on the Cajun Cannon Challenge burger

When you have a restaurant named after you, you’re most likely going to take a lot of pride in the food you serve up. But if you have a challenge dish with your name on it, you are going to want it to not only be good, but you also want it to crush the will of anyone crazy enough to try it. That my friends, is exactly what the father of the “Who Dat” nation Bobby Hebert has done at his restaurant aptly named Bobby Hebert’s Cajun Cannon Restaurant and Bar.

This sports themed bar and restaurant is part restaurant, part sports bar and home to not only some great grub but also some really cool sports memorabilia. It is also the home of one intense food challenge, the Cajun Cannon Burger Challenge. This is not for the faint of heart. It is a handsome stack of 7 beef patties topped with melted cheddar cheese and dressed. This monster is also garnished with three jumbo fried shrimp. How’s that for making a statement? Your side item with this burger is a platter of fries covered in a crawfish cream sauce and topped with shredded cheddar cheese. If that didn’t sound like “challenge” enough, you must finish this monstrous meal in thirty minutes.

My approach for this challenge was to try to wipe out as many of the burger patties as I could right from the start, and leave the fries for the end. I obviously started with the three shrimp though, ya gotta eat those while they are warm and fresh. The shrimp was great. While we are talking “great” I also want to say that the fries with the crawfish cream sauce and cheddar cheese were excellent. In fact, on my next trip to the Cajun Cannon Restaurant I would go for some fried seafood with those fries on the side. The thirty minute time limit was the key factor of this food challenge. I can honestly say that if this was an hour time limit, I would have been able to do this challenge. That thirty minute limit was tight. At the end of the day though, this meal is a “challenge” for a reason and this one lives up to its name. So, kudos to you Cajun Cannon on a dish that is as formidable as our beloved Black and Gold.
