New Orleans, La.(WGNO)

JLNO is challenging New Orleans to collect 90,000 diapers by the end of 2015 to combat the community`s Diaper Need.

One in three American mothers struggle to provide their children with clean diapers, due to the cost of disposable diapers and lack of assistance.

On average, children ages newborn to three years require 8 to 12 diapers each day, translating to more than $100 a month per child on diapers alone.

According to the Huggies® Every Little Bottom Study, research shows that those struggling to afford diapers often have difficulty with stress management and depressing, in turn negatively affecting their children`s health and development.

Government assistance programs do not cover diapers, and families struggling to provide diapers for their children are ineligible for daycare and must choose between going to work and caring for a child.

About the JLNO Diaper Bank

Once month, JLNO will conduct a diaper collection count to gauge progress toward raising 90,000 diapers over the next year in honor of the organizations 90th anniversary. The first count will be Wednesday, November 19, 2014.

All locations are accepting diapers of all sizes, training pants, swimwear diapers, wipes and creams. Monetary funds will also be accepted year round.
