Carnival season is synonymous with cocktails, and for many, a day of parades also means a day full of drinking.  So to help you keep calories in check – not to mention alcohol – we’re Getting the Skinny with Molly on 3 cocktail swaps with a fraction of the calories – plus they’re lower in alcohol content, which makes it easier to keep up with all the parade festivities!

Instead of wine – 150 calories per 6-ounce pour; 12-14% alcohol by volume)

Try: Bon Affair Wine Spritzer (pinot noir or sauvignon blanc) – 67 calories per 6-ounce pour.

A ready-made spritzer that combines wine with bubbly water and electrolytes, both of which help to minimize dehydration, one of the prime causes of hangovers – plus it has less than half the calories of regular wine.  Available online at, or ask your local wine shop to carry it.

Instead of sangria – As much as 200 calories and 30 grams of sugary carbs per 8-ounces

Try:  Swerve-sweetened Sangria – less than 100 calories per 8 ounces, with less than 5 grams sugar.

2 bottles red table wine

1 liter Sprite Zero (or 3 cans La Croix Sparkling Water, in Grapefruit)

½ – 1 cup Swerve Sweetener, depending on taste (dissolve in one cup of wine first)

1 cup Trop 50 orange juice

1 cup Trop 50 Pomegranate Blueberry

Orange slices

Apple slices

Mix all ingredients together and serve.

Instead of a frozen daiquiri – 1,000-plus calories each!

Try:  Cordina Light 100-calorie Daiquiri

100 calories per 10-ounce squeeze pouch, these drinks are portable, available in Strawberry, Lime, and Mango Daiquiri.  The main drawback is that they’re artificially sweetened and colored, but with just 100 calories and zero sugar, they’re a heckuva better option than the daiquiri shop!
