A potassium-rich diet is linked to a host of health benefits – and bananas tend to get all the glory as a top source of potassium. But while they’re definitely a great source, they’re actually not the best source of potassium, so today we’re Getting the Skinny with Molly on 5 foods with more potassium than a banana!

Benefits of potassium-rich diet:
• Lower blood pressure
• Reduced risk of stroke
• Can help with muscle cramping

We’re not saying bananas are “bad” – but there are plenty of foods with more potassium – and less sugar – than bananas.

Banana: 422 mg potassium per medium banana (105 calories, 27 grams carbs, 14 grams sugar)

Compare to:
Coconut water: 660 mg potassium per 11-ounce carton of Zico Coconut Water
Cantaloupe: one cup packs in 473 mg of potassium for 40% fewer calories than a banana
Portabella mushroom: 630 mg potassium per cup of grilled portabella mushroom slices
Pork loin: 640 mg potassium per 4-ounce serving
Spinach: one cup cooked spinach has 839 mg potassium, and just 41 calories & 7 grams carbs.
