    The service at Abundant Life Church in Gretna has been described as emotional and up-lifting. 26-year old Terrilynn Monette was last seen early Saturday morning outside Parlay’s bar in Lakeview. Investigators say she disappeared after a night of heavy drinking with friends. Co-workers became worried when the Woodland West Elementary School teacher did not show up for work Monday.   • Crimestoppers Doubles Reward in AmeriCorps Volunteer Killing

    Crimestoppers doubled the reward to $5,000 for information that leads to the killer of an AmeriCorps volunteer. Joseph Massenburg graduated from high school in the Chicago area last spring and came to New Orleans to install energy efficient lighting. He was walking near his home when he was shot and killed at the intersection of Birch and Eagle streets.   • Community March to be Held for Slain AmeriCorps Volunteer

    Those outraged by violence in New Orleans and the killing of an AmeriCorps worker on Monday are joining together. They’re holding a community march against violence. The march will be held in the Carrollton neighborhood where Joseph Massenburg was murdered at the intersection of Eagle and Birch Streets. People who attend are asked to bring their own candle. Those interested should meet at the corner of Jeannette and Dublin Streets at 8:00 p.m. Sunday.

  • Actor and former Bacchus James Gandolfini dead at 51

    Actor James Gandolfini died Wednesday of an apparent heart attack. The man best known for his role as a mob boss on HBO’s “The Sopranos” was 51. Ganfolfini had the heart attack in Italy where he was scheduled to make an appearance at a film festival. He won three Emmy Awards for playing Tony Soprano from 1999 to 2007. In 2007 he was Bacchus. Gandolfini is survived by his wife, a 9-month-old daughter and a son.

  • Donaldsonville Chemical Plant “Pressure Explosion” Kills 1 , Injures Several

    For the second day in row, tragedy strikes at a chemical plant in Ascension parish. The Friday night explosion outside Donaldsonville killed one person and injured seven others.   • Senator’s son accused of driving drunk, hitting pedestrian

    Senator Mary Landrieu’s son is accused of driving drunk and hitting a pedestrian in the French Quarter. New Orleans police say 21-year-old Connor Snellings drove the wrong direction down Bourbon Street around 3:00 a.m. Thursday. He hit a pedestrian and initially didn’t stop, according to detectives. They say he had a .211 blood alcohol content. Senator Landrieu released a statement saying the family loves him unconditionally but is disappointed by his actions.   • Slidell car wash burns

    Getting a hot wax was the only option at one Slidell car wash Tuesday. The car wash burned at the Texaco station on Robert Boulevard. Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to the gas pumps and no one was hurt. The car wash sustained heavy damage.

  • CCC toll booths coming down

    The DOTD has announced plans to begin demolition on the Crescent City Connection toll plaza. The process to remove booths in lanes 1-6 began Wednesday night around 10pm. A number of drivers have gone on recording saying this phase of decommissioning the CCC toll plaza is long overdue.   • Bill to strip St. Tammany Coroner of financial power signed

    Governor Bobby Jindal signed the bill that takes away the financial powers of the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office. Dr. Peter Galvan must now give the parish the office’s money except for funds needed to operate for the rest of the year. The parish council will have to approve any new contracts or purchases. Galvan is accused of lavish spending at the taxpayer’s expense.

  • ATM stolen out of Hammond Office of Motor Vehicles

    Louisiana State Troopers are searching for burglars who busted up the Office of Motor Vehicles in Hammond. Tuesday morning a car backed into the front glass wall of the office. Officers say the burglars then used the car to knock over an ATM. They then took off with it in their trunk, according to police. Troopers are looking for a light colored sedan with damage to its rear fender and right rear quarter panel.
