Pedestrian killed in early morning crash

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a car crash that killed a female pedestrian on S. Claiborne Avenue.

The accident happened around 5 a.m. Tuesday morning near the intersection of S. Claiborne and General Taylor.

NOPD Detectives say an unknown woman was struck by a 2007 Chevy Avalanche traveling in the left lane of the 8100 block of Claiborne Avenue.

They also say that the driver remained on the scene of the crash.

Officers have not identified the woman that was killed.

The driver will undergo blood and alcohol tests as part of the ongoing investigation into the case.
