METAIRIE, La. (WGNO) - A Texas man is dead after a traffic stop and vehicle pursuit involving Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Deputies.

According to Sheriff Newell Normand, Deputies stopped a 2014 Nissan Murano near the intersection of Clearview and W. Napoleon around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday Morning.

That is when Deputies say that the driver, identified only as a 26-year-old Texas man, opened his door and began talking to the deputy.

At some point, investigators say that the man pulled away with the deputy still in the doorway of the car, hitting him with the door and speeding away.

At that time, investigators say that deputies chased the vehicle, and it flipped near the intersection of N. Hullen and the South I-10 Service Road.

The unidentified driver was thrown from the car during the crash and died at the scene.

At this time, detectives say there is no indication as to why the driver ran from police.
