ULL head coach Mark Hudspeth said he wanted to give his defense “some extra juice” as the Cajuns prepared for Saturday night’s New Orleans Bowl game against Southern Miss.

So, just before the team boarded busses for the trip to New Orleans, Hudspeth informed his team that defensive coordinator Mike Lucas would have his interim tag removed, and get the job on a permanent basis.

Lucas took over the defense after the Cajuns lost their opener, 45-10 to Boise.

ULL finished the season 46th in the Football Bowl Subdivision in scoring defense.

Here’s our report from WGNO Sports.

Kickoff is 8 pm Tuesday. Southern Miss has won 8 straight games in the series against ULL. The teams have played 52 times.
