Randy Fandal

SLIDELL, La. (WGNO) – Retired State Police Lt. and part-time State Police investigator Randy Fandal was elected chief of police in Slidell.

Fandal defeated Slidell Police veteran Kevin O’Neill with 3,712, or 62 percent, of the vote.

Fandal got his start in law enforcement with the same office he’ll now oversee. He spent 10 years with the Slidell Police Department before joining Louisiana State Police. He retired from State Police in 2011 after 23 years on the job, but returned part-time as an investigator for the State Police Narcotics Division in 2013.

Fandal will replace former Chief Randy Smith, who was elected St. Tammany Parish sheriff.
