NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)--Hogs for the Cause and Children’s Hospital announced a new partnership in their ongoing commitment to the families facing the overwhelming burdens of children in healthcare crisis in the Gulf South.

As part of the partnership, Hogs for the Cause will make a $2.1 million investment to Children’s Hospital for the development of on-campus housing for families. The building, dubbed the “House that Hogs Built,” will provide housing for the most critical patients and their families. A press conference to announce the partnership and groundbreaking for the House that Hogs Built will take place on Thursday, November 10th at 10:30am in front of the “House that Hogs Built” on the State Street Campus, 210 State Street.

The House that Hogs Built, scheduled to open in 2017, will serve as on-campus housing for families from outside the New Orleans region who have a child receiving ongoing healthcare treatment at Children’s Hospital. The multi-million dollar expansion will include 14 family suites with private bathrooms, Wi-Fi, flat screen TVs, and mini refrigerators for breastfeeding mothers and to store medication. The common areas will include 2 family lounges, kitchen spaces, and a laundry room.

“We have had a long-standing partnership with Hogs for the Cause over the years,” said Mary Perrin, President and CEO of Children’s Hospital. “This new commitment will help so many more families have access to the specialized care that we provide.”

“This is truly a humbling day for Hogs for the Cause,” states Becker Hall, Hogs for the Cause Co-Founder. “It was always our mission to help those most in need while their children receive treatment but I never imagined we would grow our small pig roast into an organization that could make a multi-million dollar donation to the hospital. Our teams, sponsors and event attendees made this happen. They share our mission and clearly they have spoken. We are forever grateful for their blessing.”

The hogs teams will be periodically cooking for the patients at the House that Hogs built.

The next Hogs for the Cause is set for March 30 – April 1, 2017, at their new venue, the UNO Lakefront Arena grounds.
