MANDEVILLE, La. (WGNO) – North Shore residents with expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs in their households are asked to bring them to the Mandeville Police Department any time from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday.

The take-back program is designed to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs.

With prescription drug abuse rates skyrocketing nationwide, this and other similar efforts aim to limit the number of old or expired drugs in households.

Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse.

The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. Residents are asked to drop medications in the secure lock box in the lobby. Needles are not accepted.
