Pet costume contest coming up to help animal rescue groups

NEW ORLEANSbadtothebone (WGNO) — If you love to see dogs dressed in costumes — and hey, Halloween is just around the corner — then you’ve got to check out this year’s Bad to the Bone event.

It’s organized by the full service pet boutique Petcetera.

This is the ninth year for the event which si a fundraiser for animal rescue groups in the area.  This year, it’s happening on Saturday, September 17, from 6:00-9:30 pm at the Eiffel Society.  The doggie fashion show begins at 7:30.  All of the animals on the runway will be up for adoption.  After the fashion show, guests can participate in the costume contest for best-dressed pet, best human costume, and best pet/person pair.

Food will be provided by a list of restaurants including Nacho Mama’s, Reginelli’s, Arana, Catering by Eiffel Society, Joey K’s, Pinkberry, Appoline, Ernst Cafe, Hooters, and Salu. Chef Mike Gowland, who was a winner on the show Chopped and owner of Fireman Mike’s Kitchen, will supply a special dish. The Humane Society will provide a vegan dish.

Tickets for adults are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.  Kids are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.  Pets are $10.

Dress is casual, and the event is open to all ages.

The rescue groups that will benefit from the fundraiser are  Bulldog Rescue, Weimaraner Rescue, Jefferson SPCA, ABARS Mastiff Rescue, Used Dogs, Tater Tot Big Dog Rescue, Doggone Express, Lovers Not Biters Dog Rescue, The Sula Foundation, LA/SPCA, P.A.W.S. and the Humane Society of Louisiana.
