NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) - "Remember, it's mostly about the strength in your core and your legs, so if you're hurting on your arms, it means you're using your legs not enough,” says New Orleans Boulder Lounge general manger Kelsey Confreda.
But don't be intimidated, there are many levels to choose from at the New Orleans Boulder Lounge where even if you make a mistake, at least it's a soft landing.
"Kids tend to do better than adults, their strength to weight ratio is so much higher than ours and they just tend to be fearless," says New Orleans Boulder Lounge operations manager Garret Mortensen.
“Bring in your inner child and pretend that you are not afraid of falling or heights or anything like that," says Confreda.
That's the advice from these pros, leave your fears at the door and give it a shot. No experience necessary. If you're a gym regular we're told bouldering is a great cross training exercise, working muscles you didn't even know you had.
"There's a specific formula we use called BETA and that's a specific sequence of events you go through in order to finish a problem," says Mortensen.
But it's not just about using those leg muscles or stomach muscles, there's a thought process behind each climb too. You can also cheat if you know the right color scheme. Blue is easy and yellow adds a challenge.
