Saints defensive coordinator Dennis Allen summed up Saturday’s first day in pads at summer camp. “Football starts,” said Allen.

And, the day included the first day in shoulder pads for first round pick, defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins. Rankins is part of what Allen considers a “deeper group” in 2016.

Here’s a report from WGNO Sports on Saturday’s practice.

Saints safety Erik Harris, appeared to sustain an injury in practice. Saints head coach Sean Payton doesn't comment on injuries during his press briefings, and the Saints discourage media from taking video of players injured during practice.

The Saints practice Sunday and Monday. The players have an off day, Tuesday.
