NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Another great sign of appreciation for law enforcement: Pelican Pointe Carwash is offering free car washes for law enforcement officers until July 27.

The free car wash is good at any one of the company’s six locations. There are six locations, three in Metairie, one in New Orleans, one in Covington and one in Mandeville.

Owners said the vehicle can be a personal vehicle as long as the officer provides identification, or it can be a patrol unit.

The gesture comes after a tense few weeks for law enforcement. The shooting deaths of two black men – Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge and Philando Castile in Minnesota – prompted widespread protests across the country. Amid those protests, 12 officers were shot in Dallas. Five of them died.

In Baton Rouge, six police officers were shot Sunday morning by 29-year-old Gavin Long of Missouri. Three of those officers died, and a fourth is fighting for his life at a Baton Rouge hospital.
