SHREVEPORT, La. (WGNO) – The Mississippi woman who went missing from her hotel on Canal Street was arrested in Caddo Parish for embezzlement charges she is facing in Meridian, Mississippi.

The Clarion-Ledger reports that Chanda Smith, who was in New Orleans with her mom and daughter for a Beta Club convention when she went missing, was booked into the Caddo Parish Jail for being an out-of-state fugitive.

Smith was reported missing June 26. A few days later, NOPD said Smith was seen boarding a Greyhound bus in Baton Rouge. She was found Sunday, July 3 in a Shreveport hospital.

NOPD said Smith is bipolar and has schizophrenia, diseases her family said could be the reason she’s facing embezzlement charges.
