BELLE CHASSE, La. (WGNO) – Plaquemines Parish Director of Administration Ed Theriot has been appointed interim Plaquemines Parish president following the death of Amos Cormier Jr.

Cormier died June 16 after having an emergency surgery for a blocked artery.

A special election will be held in November to fill Cormier’s seat.

“In honor of Amos Cormier’s vision for Plaquemines Parish and the continued support of our community, we will work together for a brighter future,” Theriot said. “I look forward to serving Plaquemines to the best of my ability.”

Cormier was a longtime coach and teacher who became parish president in 2015.
